What the Coach Knows (and Doesn’t)
The Coach starts every conversation with your safety profile and requests additional data only when your question requires it — and you can see exactly what it is pulling.
The safety floor
Some information is present in every Coach interaction, every time, with no exceptions:
- Your name
- Your allergies and medical conditions
- Your dietary restrictions and preferences
- Your active protocol names
- Today’s date
This is the safety floor. It is not optional. It is not behind a request. It is always there.
What this means for you: Even if the Coach fetches no additional data for a given question, it will never recommend a dish containing an ingredient you are allergic to. Safety information is the one thing that is never left out.
On-demand data
Beyond the safety floor, the Coach actively requests additional data based on what you ask. This is not a silent background process — you can see it happening.
When the Coach needs more context, the interface displays “The Coach is reviewing your case” with a list of steps showing exactly which data is being fetched. Each step shows a progress indicator as it completes:
| Step | What It Fetches |
|---|---|
| Loading your context | Your safety profile and baseline settings |
| Pulling recent health records | Nutrition logs, sleep, and activity data from the past several days |
| Checking protocol adherence | Your active protocols and how you are performing against them |
| Reviewing weekly summary | A condensed overview of your recent week |
| Pulling training logs | Your workout history |
| Loading conversation history | Summaries of your past Coach conversations |
| Reviewing your profile | Your full profile — goals, preferences, body metrics |
Not every step runs every time. The Coach requests only the data relevant to your question. A question about sleep does not trigger a review of your workout history.
What the Coach does not have access to
Your photos. Photo-based food logging is processed by a separate system. The Coach never sees your images.
Other users’ data. The Coach operates exclusively within your account.
Raw health streams. The Coach sees daily summaries of your Apple Health data — not minute-by-minute heart rate readings or raw accelerometer data.
Device information. Nothing about your phone, location, or browsing activity is available to the Coach.
Conversation memory
The Coach does not start fresh every time you open a new conversation. After each interaction, the system generates a structured summary of what was discussed — topics covered, preferences you expressed, strategies you explored. These summaries are loaded into future conversations so the Coach can reference prior context.
If you discussed a plan for managing travel eating last week, the Coach can pick up that thread this week without you re-explaining.
Conversations are retained for 90 days. After 90 days of inactivity, a thread is archived. There is no limit on the number of threads you can create.
Privacy
Your Coach conversations are private. They are not used to train AI models. They are not shared with other users. They are not accessible to anyone but you.
